Default 69 Mach 1 trunk lid stripe without "Mach 1"?

My Mach 1 trunk lid stripe doesn't say Mach 1. I can't seem to find another like it. Is it factory or possibly a replacement stripe? Any ideas? Thanks.

The way it's flaking it appears to be painted on. The factory original was reflective tape.

It's not painted on. It's definitely tape. It's not reflective any more if it ever even was.

The tape cannot lose it's reflectivity.

I don't know. It doesn't seem to be reflective. Everything on the car looks to be original...from my highly uneducated eye. I was just wondering if anyone had seen a stripe like this one on a Mach 1 before.

Not me. I remember when they were new. The 69 mach1 is my favorite exterior. Never owned a 69, though, because I dislike the interior, and that's what you see when driving one.

Very interesting! The trunk lid on the '69 mach I'm currently restoring (Dearborn car w/mid Sep 68 build date) was the same as yours. I'm positive the lid is not only original, but so was the paint (I have pics). Perhaps the early cars did not have the 'mach 1' as part of the stripe.

Brings up an interesting question. Does the aftermarket offer this configuration, or I'm I doomed?

By the way, was the color of the mach 1 stripe a buyer choice if ordering the car, instead of picking from dealer stock?

I'm pretty sure the color of the stripe depended on the color of the car.

The strip is not paint. If you look at his picture there is paint under the peeling. I would like to see it cleaned up without bumper stickers.

You can buy the stripes without the "MACH 1" from these guys. That's what I did for the spoiler on my coupe, but they are reflective.

They call this stripe "prototype" and claim it was used on very early '69s before the name Mach 1 was used. I have no idea if their claim is valid.

What's the build date of your car?

I feel the exact same way. I know this is off topic, but if anyone knows, its probably you. Why did ford go so incredibly cheap on the 69'+ interior? Love the way my car looks, but the interior is just pathetic compared to the 65-68 models.

I don't know. The car is in storage in Illinois. I'm out west in Albuquerque. I'll probably bring it out 2014-2015 time frame to begin resto. It's safe and sound in my pop's garage. The pic was taken before it was pushed in.

Ditto. I'm planning on changing it up to 03-04 Mach 1 interior. Also Gulfstream Aqua, Acapulco Blue or Winter Blue.

I figure a combination of new safety regs, and need to compete with the price of the Camaro. Never liked the style, either, the dash pad looks like a pair of horse collars to me. Maybe that fits with the "Mustang" name, but…
