Default Update: 6-gauge bezel in final stages

Here is a quick image of the final stage before chroming... Hopefully by the end of the week, I'll have it back and will cut the hols and install wood grain and gauges for all to see.

The cost isn't as bad as I thought... Looking forward to some feedback when its time.

I'm sure I can find a few VMF'rs who would want to test the prototypes....

Looks sharp. I assume this is being made to fit (4) 2 1/16" gauges and (2) 3 3/8" gauges? If you're really wanting people to test it out shoot me a PM with the details and I'll be happy to further discuss it.

I'm actually fixing to redo my instrument cluster, and was planning on the brushed aluminum set with matching glove box. Is there any way to put that sort of look on it? I already have the autometer gauges, all 6 of them.

The material is very strong plastic... same stuff used in many props for movies, etc.... strong durable properties...

exactly, designed for 4 2-1/16 and 2 3-3/8... I just ordered hole saw bits for those exact sizes... not sitting on the shelf in any hardware store....

I'll post images of the progress... & PM you once prototype is completed.

well,,, i really started this project because there wasn't an adequate stock looking 6-gauge cluster for the pony wood grain... I haven't even made a camera-case one yet for the non-pony deluxe interiors... however, if 3M has a di-noc product that is like brushed aluminum, then yes... it can be done.. I know they have some pretty good looking dinoc 3m carbon fiber vinyl covering that many later model mustang'rs use... if you can find the di-noc that will work, we can make that happen... the glvoe box would have to be covered to match as well.

mark the thread and stay tuned...

Added: Just came across some di-noc 3m brushed aluminum vinyl... so my first answer is yes... if you can get the material.. here is a link to an image I found on a BMW board...

Just found who sells the brushed aluminum look... it would require ordering 2 feet long (doesn't matter how wide because the grain pattern runs lengthwise... not widith)... they sell it in 1 foot incriments... I made this mistake when ordering burl wood grain before with them.. had to send it back and order 2 feet long even though it was 4 feet wide...

fonebooth... will do.

Tomorrow might be the day we 'chrome' the bezel... if so, I'm going to video tape the process of the bezel going from being white to being chrome.... seen it on youtube, but never in person... should be really cool seeing my project child come to life... will post tomorrow if it happens...

Bezel update: well as it turned out the place that was going to do the chroming had a couple more items come in last-minute. Two days to cure, and hopefully tomorrow morning we will be chroming the bezel.

Mark this thread and stay tuned
