Help understanding the options tag (68 survivor vert)
I've had other thread(s) about this particular car, but I thought that perhaps this topic was worthy of its own thread.
The car is still in original condition with only one previous owner (my father) and he factory ordered the car. Unlike the buyer of a used car I'm not worried that something isn't factory, but I am confused as to the lettering stamped on the one of the tags. It seems that the VIN and the warranty plates are very easy to decode with all sorts of websites that break down the meanings of the codes, but the other tag has letters on it that I can't seem to cross reference.
Here's what I do know:
VIN: 8T03J17xxxx
8 = 1968
T = Manufactured in Metuchen, NJ
03 = 2-Door Convertible
J = 302 4-Barrel
17xxxx = The actual build number of the car
Warranty Plate Info:
76A B 2AA 06C 16 E 5
76 = 2-door Conv't, bucket seats (Standard Interior)
B = Exterior Color is Royal Maroon
2AA = Trim is Black Crinkle Vinyl and Black Kiwi Vinyl, (Standard Interior)
06C = Built on March 6th, 1968
16 = District Sales office is Philadelphia
E = Differential is 3.0:1 Locking
5 = Transmission is 4 Speed manual, 2:78
Now here's where I get lost, at the third tag (image at the bottom of this post).
What does the "666" stand for at the top left? What about the "RB" and "ST?" I suppose I'll get a Marti report, but I'm sure there's a list somewhere that breaks down these codes...

Is there a code detective in the house that can give us all the 411?

Often the path to forgiveness is to realize that the other person is an imbecile.
Rea bumper guards also included front bumper guards, but the production note was needed because the rears required holes in the body not needed on no-guard cars.

Nice car, great that it's always been in the family. Please, please get a Marti report. My 68 vert also has factory AC. It's also a Dearborn, but a C code automatic. When I bought my 68 in 1977 I would have been overjoyed and willing to pay $1000 more if it had been J code, 4 speed with limited slip rear! That was 50% more back then!!

I did just order the marti report - (the "Delux," not the "Elite.") I also ordered "Mustang . . . by the Numbers" as I think that will be a fun read.
One thing I'm curious about is the comment in another thread that the "TOPK" stamp indicates a white top. (That's shown in the image at the beginning of this thread). But as the car currently has a black top that has me scratching my head.
Dad did say that he got the top redone once after someone slashed it to steal a briefcase. But that was back in the 60's and he's hazy if it was the '65 or if it was this, the '68. I'll press him some more soon but when the Marti report arrives I'll consider that to be the final word.

The Marti report will say what top came on it from the factory. Many verts (mine also) came with black top and were changed to white because the black was hot!
I'm betting your car had black top from the factory.

Yeah AC not common at all in all verts of that era. I have a 69 firebird and 68 GTO with AC and it was very uncommon with them also. With pontiac AC verts are worth quite a bit more than non ac cars. Kinda cool looking at difference in what people like in the muscle cars. Mustangs matching number nice but not worth that much more. WIth Pontiac, it make a big difference. Kinda nice you are keeping it in family BTW. As they said, Marti will tell you top color also.
