I purchased a new lower clutch spring for my car and I'm not exactly sure how it hooks up. I have the original spring but it is broken off on one side. Can anyone send a picture of how it hooks up? I'm also a little concerned that the new spring is smaller in diameter than the old spring. Do you think that will be an issue? What exactly is this spring even supposed to do?
I would think that your replacement spring should be the same size in diameter and length as the original.
Did you get it from a Mustang parts vendor?
I'm going to try & tell you how to hook it on:The front end hooks onto the clutch release fork-IIRC there is a hole and a half-circle deal at the end of the fork and the spring goes through the half circle and then hooks in the small hole.
On the back end hold the spring up towards the back of the car and sight towards the frame...there is a oval shaped hole and a small hole there as well-same deal there-the spring goes through the oval shaped hole and hooks into the small hole.
-Hope this helps....its been a little while....may be others can help more.
Also, make sure you've got the right spring too.

I ordered the spring through CJPony and they assured me in an email that it is the correct spring. I will remove the old spring tonight and make sure they are at least the same length. Thanks for the advice.
There are two springs, one upper and one lower. It looks like you may have purchased the upper one, this one pulls the z bar back towards the firewall (spring # 7523 according to the Ford shop manual). The lower one is the one you are referring to, and the one outlined for replacement by 6hypoconv above. That is spring # 7A632 (from Ford S M), and listed as part # 7591 in the NPD catalog.
EDIT: I looked again at the part number of the spring you bought, and the one you bought looks like the lower one but it definitely looks different from the broken spring in your pic. The broken one actually looks more the like original upper spring, which is a bit larger in diameter on my car. Perhaps someone previously had used the upper one to do the job of the lower spring, and that's the broken spring in the pic you've got. Buy the upper spring, put them both on and you'll be good to go.

Thank you! I will order the upper spring and see what happens.

I'm almost 100% that you were correct. That spring fit nicely and the old spring looks just like the upper spring.
Thanks again
Glad to help. I still have my original upper linkage spring that came on the car, but replaced my lower release rod spring 4 or 5 years ago when the release rod pivot retaining clip broke and happily dumped my release rod and spring on the freeway at around 80 mph in 3rd gear. It made for fun driving home shifting by matching the revs

I have to assume that I have been driving my car around like this since I got the car so I must have gotten lucky that nothing else happened.
