Is there anything that would make an early 65 (64 1/2) 170ci hardtop project car worth more than $3,000? I guess I should ask, is $3k about right generally speaking? A guy is asking $7k, which I think is outrageous. I thought I go and offer $3k cash, but would a low number, April 64 build date or other options (Orig working A/C, bench seat, AM/FM 8 track player and rally pack (Ha Ha Ha!) etc) add any additional value beyond $3k?
It runs, so they say
I assume all original parts and everything runs and no evidence of rust.
Would I be offering a fair price?

I would say its worth 3k- More only if one or more of the following is met:
1. Rust free (surface ok- but no swiss cheese anywhere)
2. Owned by someone famous (need documents to prove it) Like Bill Clintons hookers car etc
3. Serial number very low or unusual like 100,010, or 289,289
4. Super rare options-could even be color (but would have to be super rare or unusual, bench seat aint enough
5. < 100,00 miles, with all parts factory or replaced yrs ago with FoMoCo stuff
6. Never mind- it can't be worth more than 3K its just a coupe (JK- I own a coupe I can say this)
7. Comes with a truck full of original Ford stuff in the boxes- enough to restore the car or close to it
8. Was the long lost _____________'s car you have searched for over the last 20 yrs
AM/FM 8track? That would not be factory at all for sure. The Mustangs did not get an 8 track player until 1966 and then it was only AM 8 track.
Sorry, I was refering to the recent thread about the "one of a kind" $300,000 Mach 1 that had the Tach and an 8 Track player.
The only pictures I've seen so far won't tell you much (Craigslist), but I'm hoping it is a genuine Arizona Mustang w/o rust. I suspect it'll have mostly original parts. It supposedly runs. I tried calling today. I hope to see it this weekend with $3k cash in hand and see what happens. I'll keep you posted.
Whether I buy it or not, I'll see about taking pictures and jot down the warranty plate info.

Absolute POS! Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures, but I included his from craigslist. I did not see any major rust on it, but it had so much poorly done bondo work done to it that even I could see it straight away. The guy said that it was all original. Then I pointed out that it had the wrong fuel filter, reproduction air cleaner, wrong valve cover, a '66 five gage instrament panel, and an after market steering wheel. That's what I could tell was not original. The "exterior paint" is actually primer, and the interior was more like a rats next. The good news is that although he loves the car, he could let it go for $5,000. I told him almost immediately that I was not interested and said the car was worth about $1000 if he could find some young kid, if he was lucky or if he could part it out. His reply was he had a hard enough time letting it go for $5,000, he would never sell it for less than that. I wished him good luck and left.
