I have looked in salvage yards at Explorers, 96's, for
the GT-40 heads and all I have found have been GT-40-P
heads which have different exhaust manifolds, some
say you can make them work.
You can make the P heads work if you arfe gifted with a welder or rich enough to buy the special headers. I looked into it and the headers were like $700 (plain, not ceramic or such) and only mid length.
Some say certain headers work with areas "massaged" for clearance.

Getting ready for a 5.0 roller swap
I wouldn't say that they are not in Explorers, I wasn't able to
find many 96's would see more 97's 98's which were P heads,
many of them already gone from the car. Maybe a partial year
in 96 that they used them, don't know. You may want to go on
a late model 5.0 website like Modded Mustangs, I'm sure you
could get more specific info there.
The Cobra GT-40's are actually a little different. They have the thermactor ports on them for the Mustang pollution control system.
The GT-40's have 3 vertical bars cast into the front while P's have 4 bars.

I would seriously consider "not" buying these heads. ProComp heads are great if you tie them to a rope and tie the other end to a boat.
Lots of issues with procomp heads.

If you're looking for gt-40's, hit up the for sale section over on corral.net, there's always some listed. That said, for what they cost, I'd just save a little more and get a set of used edelbrocks or trick flow/afr's if you can afford it. I was looking at the gt's, but for what you can pick up aluminum heads for these days...

F3ZE is the casting of the GT40 head. I see 96 Explorers in the yards around here fairly regularly, but I don't bother pulling the heads anymore. Too time-consuming to pull. Expensive to buy. Always break off at least one intake manifold bolt on removal. Can't get decent money for them. I have 3-4 sets of them right now.
If you are looking to get some GT40's I would look for a set of the F3ZE-AA heads. these are from the firstrun of the head and have the 60-61cc chamber. the later GT40s and the GT40 P's have the larger 64cc chamber.
For a stock ford head the GT-40 is a good upgrade over the stock 302 heads....
If i would be buying aluminum, i would go with the Trick Flows or AFR's first then probably the edelbrocks and so on down the line (except ProComp as in your link to ebay) .
