Is anything from that engine salvageable?

Believe it or not....it could have been saved. No garbage in the cylinders and only had a blown head gasket on once side. Would have needed new bearings though. He has another long block that he is going to swap the heads and intake onto. Then the blower is accessory mount so it will plug right in again.

He is pretty lucky, I wonder what caused those head bolts to fail, too much boost?

Only one bolt failed....the other was never installed...but yes, most likely it was overboosted/over reved.

If he had a shop build it, I would certainly be talking with them about the missing head bolt.

What is the original color of your Fastback? You said blue? You don't want to go back to the original color?

Car was originally night mist blue.

And no, don't want to go back to original. I've gone out mustang shopping 3 times to buy a dark moss green 1967 mustang....and failed, instead I bought a red 65 fastback, then a white 67 fastback, and then a red 1968 fastback. A really nice 1967 fastback in dark moss green came on the market late last year, but then my roof blew off my house so I didn't have the funds to buy it. When I finally had the funds available again, it was too late and it was gone. So then I went out looking for a 1967 dark moss green fastback again....and wasn't finding anything worth buying. So the wife said "look just paint the white one green".....and since it I had just redone the interior, put 4 wheel disc brakes on it, installed all new suspension and was in the middle of building a 347 motor for it, it seemed like a great idea and perfect timing.

I can feel your pain.
I rate nightmist up there with dark moss and silver frost as my top 3 67 colors!

Follow me on this one...

One red fastback, one green fastback and one nightmist blue fastback. That may be a little extreme, but what an amazing collection of colors!

Nah.....2 red fastbacks and 1 green fastback.

Maybe I'll buy a blue one next year.

I'm starting to get a little nervous....metal has been found.....but why on earth is there 1/8 to 1/4 of filler on the rear quarters?
