Hey guys, Wanted to introduce myself and hope I am doing it in the right section.
I am from western Colorado. I recently got a 1964.5 Mustang with a very unique history. My wifes grandmother ordered this car in 1964 and has been in the family ever since. This will be probably one of the only projects I do that the wifey won't complain about how much time and money I spend on it!!
I have alot I plan on doing to the car and look forward to having your guys input throughout the build. I am familliar with the search function but am sure I will have some unique questions too.
I look forward to learning and being a contributing member!
That is very cool that the car has been in the family since new. Can you tell us a little more about it?
Search away but feel free to ask anything, every question that comes up not only helps the OP but everyone that reads the thread as well and as always we need some pics, so psot en up!

Welcome to VMF. Sounds like you and wifey have inherited a super Mustang.
I suggest you move up one step to the vintage Mustang forum. You are now on the general discussion non vintage Mustang forum!

I thought the whole site was vintage mustang? I posted my introduction in the off-topic/general discussion section as i didn't see a new comers thread for introductions? How do I get to the vintage?
In my garage!!
Where I picked it up from!!
The stock 289/c4, with matching numbers!!
I am waiting on wifey's uncle to send all the original paperwork that grandma got from the dealers. Then I can tell you guys what options she ordered and what codes everything is/was. Was pearl blue and the orginal code paint is already bought!!
I was born in Glenwood Springs also. i live in New Castle but work in Gwood.
Awesome! For a few years after college I lived in Rifle and worked in Glenwood as well. Regarding the car, are you going to do the work yourself? I can see that there's a rust bubble in the door so I'd suspect there might be more rust hiding elsewhere, such as the cowl. What are your plans for the car? Full restore or just doll it up and drive it?

P.S. - This is a fully vintage mustang site but what Slim was referring to is the sub-forums within the man site. For instance, this area is called "general discussion" where anything can be discussed including vintage if you want but more attention might be paid to future posts about your car with a better chance of being answered in the "vintage mustang" sub forum since some people don't read this general area. To get to the various sections, you can enter the main URL in your browser (http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/) and then click on the subforums from there. You'll see what we're talking about when you see it.

I will post in the vinage section when I start asking questions and show off the biuld. Most forums I am active on have a newbie introduction thread, is why I introducted myself in the off topic section.
The plan for the car is to rework it from the ground up. Not true to original form but updated for form and function. Being the car will NEVER be sold I can do anything I want as long as I keep the original parts and the mod does not require any cutting.
I will do all the work myself except paint and interior. I grew up in my fathers diesel shop so know my way around auto's and have the tools.
The plan at this point is do a Saginaw Borgeson Power Steering Conversion Kit, disc brake upgrade, One wire alternator, HEI distributor, new poly bushings all around, new shocks, progressive coil springs, new leaf springs, finned aluminum pans, covers, air cleaner. The paint and interior will be out sourced but to the right ppl.
The motor and trans have already been rebuilt, just have sat for a while so will pull them and freshen and paint them up.
The biggest things that are undecided at this point is what shocks I will run and which shifter. I am leaning towards a B&M Hammer but am still researchng.
As far as rust there is surface here and there but the front of the floor pan is the only spot that will need replaced.

If you can read this, thank a teacher. Since it's in English, thank a soldier
Is your wife's grandmother still alive? It would be great to share stories and progress with her. Who had it before your wife?
Welcome!

The site has evolved and changed hands over the years. The whole site is indeed for vintage Mustangs. The one called concours is aimed at those building what they hope will be a trophy winning exact resto or even original. The one called vintage is where most of the discussion goes on like how can I do this, how do you like my new stang wheels, car won't start after sitting etc.
Scan down the list...modifieds...for sale...parts wanted...free or trade etc.
You're right...no intro!
Please feel free to ask questions. We probably don't do everything right but we do love to help!

It sounds like you have some awesome handle on things but I don't think you've found all of the rust yet. Your door rust is more than surface and the floor pans are an indicator of a bad cowl (but not 100%). You can test your cowl by dumping a bucket of water in there and seeing if any comes through to your footwell area. I'm not trying to rain on your new project but we need to start with the basics: ascertaining the state of the unibody before we move on to the suspension/drive train. If this isn't the kind of "help" you're looking for please let us know and I'll shove off.
