I don’t think anyone is saying that they are the same. As with anything else in this world, you can get something QUICKLY, CHEAPLY, or made with QUALITY, but not all three at once. Most people balk at the thought of a 10k paint and bodywork price tag. Since most Mustang people are not made of money, DIY paint jobs that are 5 footers for 2k is a steal. Besides, our Mustangs are meant to be DRIVEN, not be trailer queens afraid of chipping there 10k paint jobs (which will be about what I have into my Mustang when all is said and done).

Price, quality and lead time. It's all a balancing act. You can get two, but usually not all three. You have to do a lot of looking and researching. I have painted my 67 twice, both times by friends at work and they were done in their garages at home. Most recent one in 2000 cost me $1800. Not a lot of body work...most of that was done back in 1981 during the first paint job. I had all the trim removed except the windshield. It included the door jams, underside of hood and trunk. I had to do most of the cut and buff, but I was very pleased in the end.

When you figure a basic fender replacement starts at $1200.....
