Default Need a power steering expert

Been having issues with my power steering. My steering stutters for most of the time and squeals crazy when turning the wheel. Sometimes it'll just go away for a moment or a few. But there is fluid, new belt which is on tight enough, and its a new pump. Today I noticed a hole in my valve to cylinder hose. Can this which I assume allow air into my system causing this stuttering when turning the wheel?

A hole in the hose, pressure or return or slave cylinder, would cause major fluid leak, which, if left unchecked, can dry up the pump and let it ruin itself by running dry. Doesn't take long. Obviously, first replace or repair the leaking hose. If the pump still squalls with plenty of fluid in it, replace the pump. Enough said.
Best,
Al

Squealing is bad. Fix any leaking, broken, twisted, or otherwise unsound hoses. Make sure you are running Type F ATF. Anything else will ruin the pump in very short order. These pumps can be rebuilt so if it's the pump rest assured it's not the end of the world.

Um, yeah. The PS pump operates up to 800 psi. Believe me, air will not suck into a cylinder hose.

Well I'm hoping this hole I have in the hose is the issue. If not, then it's the refurbished POS pump I bought from NAPA. Can't think of anything else if the squeals stops at times.

I guarantee it's not a hole in the hose. A hole in the hose would be shooting fluid all over the place, like the blood in a cheap horror film.

Squealing is typically the belt. Remove the belt and turn the pulley by hand. Is it smooth and easy?

A blocked pressure hose would cause pressure build up, and squealing, too.

And of course it is quite normal for the belt to squeal if you turn all the way to the stop, because the PS is then using all 800 psi to try to bend the stop. Never, never hold the steering hard against the stop.

Ok. Then I think I'll end up taking the pump back to NAPA.

I agree about bleeding the system. But that won't lead to squealing. Double check the alignment of the pulleys and belt tension.

If it's the pump Lares Corp has treated me well with several pumps bought for different cars.

Yup. Most likely just needs to be tightened

Could be glaze build up on the pulley causing the squeal as well. Brake Kleen, followed by warm water and dish soap will get rid of the glaze on pulleys.

We did the soap on the belt but I'll try the warm water and dish soap on the pulley.

What needs to be tightened? I definitely know you're not talking about the belt.

Just plain soap on the belt will make it slip like crazy. Both belt and pulleys need to be clean and free of residues.
