Default overhead console wiring 1968

I need some help figuring out where to tie in my overhead console.

There are two lights and two switches.

Each switch has a ground and a hot wire. The 2 lights each have 1 hot wire.

The grounds are grounded - that gives me 4 wires that need a hot connection.

The console came with no instruction and the wiring diagrams don't really help as they are fairly poor.

Does anyone have any pics or diagrams or can someone point me to a resource? Thanks!

IIRC there is a single power wire that comes in from the passenger side on fastbacks or from the center of the rear window on coupes. That wire comes through a slit in the headliner that is hidden by the console body when it is mounted. That wireconnects to a bullet connector on the console harness which in turn splits and branches out to the input wire on each of the two switches. The output wires from the switches go to the input wires on the light housings and the output wires on the light housings go to ground. With the switch(es) "on" you have a complete circuit and the light(s) illuminate.

I am putting a console in my 67 and got this from a friend on another forum. I haven't done mine yet, I have to take the windshield out to install the bracket. Anyway, he (GTChris) made a harness.
"I looked at the original wiring diagrams and it looked like the console was fed power from the green / yellow which is hot whether the door is open or closed.

I took the male pin that goes in the passenger door switch and plugged it into the female bullet connector on the new harness that I made. Then took the male pin from the new harness and plugged it into the door switch.

The opposite end has a female bullet that runs up to the male pin that is attached to the overhead console."

Thanks for the help guys - but I still don't get how I need to wire up the switches and lights.

The switches each have a green wire and a blue wire. The lights only have a green wire.

Looking at the diagram, I assume you wire the light's green wire to the green wire on the switch.

The blue wire from each switch (that I thought was a ground) - looks like they route down to unswitched power.....

How do you ground this then? I'm confused - obviously.

Well, the diagram is not that hard to follow.
You need to find the "red" connector connected to wire 54D/54E (green-yellow stripe).
54E connects to the right hand door jam switch.
You need to connect a wire that T's to both map lamp switches.

In other words, trace back from the right hand door jam switch to find the red connector, that's your power for the map lights.

Is there a power (green/yellow stripe) wire running up to the roof of your car?
Does your console have the console wiring harness? If so, post a picture of that harness.

Here's the pic - mustangs to fear one piece headliner and console.

It looks like I should join the switch wires to the lights and then what?

Yes, you need to connect the switches to the map lamps.
Connect both lamp switch green-yellow stripe to a "T" connector, then to the "Red" connector for power.
Other end of lamps goes to ground.
The wiring is circled in red below.

Ok I think I've got it. Thanks for the help.

Since I'm using a painless harness, I think my "red" connector might be a T at the drivers door jam switch. But I'll look on pass side first.

I think I was confused because the original dome light had a ground right at the roof. I'll be glad when the wiring crap is done! I'd much rather weld in new floor pans than wire stuff up!!

Be sure to post a pic when you get that bad boy in, I'd love to have that headliner in my 68.
