Default Which rattle can paint will match this?

M-9600-K302 Mustang Ford Racing Air Cleaner Oval With Mustang Script 4V V8 1965-1973 | CJ Pony Parts

I want to paint my sanden aluminum cover I got from HoosierBuddy to match this air cleaner I have installed in my car. It seems to be a flat black. Just wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head before I experiment.

It's not wrinkle finish? If not, might be easier to just put a fresh coat of semi gloss lacquer from Dupli-Color on it and your new cover too.

Originally, oval air cleaners were unpainted. Later, IIRC 1967, they were painted with wrinkle paint. Nowadays, they can be painted flat black, wrinkle, semigloss, whatever the maker feels like using.

It certainly does not have a shine to it, much more dull than the engine bay. Exactly what is wrinkle compared to flat? What kind of paint would I buy for either.

I vote for the wrinkle finish from a spray bomb. Most of the ones I've ever sprayed are a semi-gloss. If you want it flatter you can wait a day for it to cure and dust it with some flat black.

The black "powered by Ford" stuff usually has a wrinkle finish to it. Just look at it and see if it has a texture to it, that would be the wrinkle finish.

Gotcha! Then I say it is wrinkle since it does have a bit of texture to it. Is that stuff usually available in local stores?

Wrinkle finish you can get at any Home Depot, etc. I have the oval cleaner and mine is not wrinkle. Anyway, what I do recommend is a spray from VHT called "Rollbar and chassis" paint. Or their "epoxy" paint. Both are available in flat black or semi gloss. VHT products are available at Auto Zone, Advanced auto parts, etc. Both offer a very durable finish that can withstand a decent amount of heat, fuel spills, etc. Just follow the directions on the can or the result will be less than desirable.

Krylon makes the wrinkle finish too. I suggest a heat gun to kick off the wrinkle process. heat works wonders with wrinkle paints.
