Default Problem raising engine to install headers

Trying to install my nice new set of FPA headers on my 68 coupe and need to raise the passenger side of the engine to get that side in. Took the motor mount bolt out and put a block of wood and hydraulic jack under front corner of the engine. When I go to raise the engine, it raises the whole front end. What am I missing? I even pushed down on the fender think it just needed to be broken loose from the motor mount but still did not work. Car has 289 with C4 tranny.

Any ideas?

Take out both sides and just lift the engine straight up. Did you unbolt trans cross member? Your twisting the mount and it might be the reason the one side won't break loose.

No, did not unbolt the trans mount but will give that, and taking out the bolt for the other motor mount out a try.

Thanks for the tip

I'm sure you took into account the amount of suspension travel before the engine will even come off the frame...

Being totally honest...no, I did not. I made an assumption (likely not and accurate one) that there was less weight in lifting the engine not bolted down than raising the entire front-end with the assistance of the spring tension.
