After I did my suspension upgrades (including FAB9 rear end with 9" TrueTrac, 3.70 gears), I've been having a whine that develops above 45 mph or so. When I press the clutch in, the noise goes away (about 32s in the video). Here's a clip for reference:
The interior is out right now, but even with it in I still noticed the sound. I've never had transmission issues and it was just fine before it went into the shop. Thanks in advance.
It's an all new setup. I went from leafs, 8", etc. to TCP four link, FAB9 and TrueTrac with 3.70 gears. I talked to the shop about the pinion angle and they said they adjusted it.
I've talked to Strange Engineering about it and sent them the video. They said it may be something else in the drivetrain but I still think it may be gears. I just wanted other opinions.
They're Strange Engineering BUT according to their website: "Strange Engineering only uses the highest quality gears available from U.S. Gear, Motive Gear and Richmond for Ford 9” applications." So in reality, it's anyone's guess.
what gear are you in?
The trans in your sig ?
What rear gear did you swap from?
The Richmond race gear in my 68 has a whine to it because of the type of gear it is.
In the video I'm pretty sure it was 3rd - 5th gear and yes, it's the T-5z. The previous gear was the stock 2.80 but the whole unit was changed because of the upgrade.
PINION pilot bearing, in the 3rd member, not the transmission input shaft pilot.
