I was driving 50 mph in the far left lane on the freeway (there was traffic) when some genius thought it would be a good idea to pit maneuver me into a concrete wall.
He merged into my passenger fender which spun me head on into the median. The kicker? He sped off. Didn't slow down, just floored it and left. I don't have a license plate number on the guy as I was too busy trying to control my car. All I know is that it appeared to be a silver VW station wagon. There's silver paint transfer on my bumper and fender.
I don't have a scratch on me, the car protected me and I'm physically fine. The monte carlo bar and one piece export brace seemed to have protected the front end from collapsing significantly.
I'm praying that insurance cooperates. Frankly, I'm terrified at what they're going to do.
I was also involved in a hit and run in a '66 Shelby around 1999 or 2000. Hagerty took my account of the incident at face value, and proceeded to honor the claim, even went the extra mile and didn't force an all fiberglass hood on me that the adjuster had recommended. The car had a more highly valued fiberglass over steel frame hood, and Hagerty saw my reasoning that putting an all fiberglass hood on the car would be diminishing its value. Very classy.
In the larger cities I've lived in (in this country), such as LA, Austin, Seattle, etc. the police won't even come out to an accident unless you are blocking traffic or if there is an injury or fatality. Basic hit and runs and fender benders and they just say call your insurance company. Truthfully, most police departments are so strapped for manpower and funding, I'm just happy they can maintain the chaos we call the USA.
Glad you're alright. Had about the same thing happen to me a couple months ago. Guy in a beat up Grand Marquis nailed my rear quarter, when he was flying down the freeway, and preceded to keep going. Would have been a perfect pit maneuver, but I think I was fortunate that I was driving a full size conversion van. I was able to follow the guy though, until the cops I called were able to catch up. Guess he was sauced to the gills, and told the sheriff's that he didn't even realize he had hit someone....... he left in hand cuffs
Immediately post an ad on craigslist seeking witnesses to the hit-and-run involving a green 1969 Mustang Convertible on such-and-such freeway at such-and-such time. Perhaps a Good Samaritan will come forth with a license plate number. If I witnessed a hit-and-run I'd do my best to follow the "hitter" and get a license plate number for the 'hittee".
I once watched a car back into a motorcycle, knock it down, stopped to get out and go look at it, and drive off. I got their plate number and left a note on the motorcycle with my phone number and the plate number I saw. I also called the PD at the time and told them I had just witnessed a hit and run and have them a plate number.
The guy called me the next day and was very grateful for the info I left and asked what happened. Hopefully somebody does the same in this case. I'd want the same for myself.
dang man that really blows. hopefully you filled a report because someone somewhere in that traffic saw that and possibly got a plate. we deal with hit and goes all the time in the Dallas Metroplex and one plate, even partial, can make a world of difference.
on the good side, i dont think they would total it and if it looks like they might, start the sweet talking business. you now have a great platform to do some good suspension upgrades since you have to cut out that bent up metal anyways.
keep us posted and dont give in on the insurance. arnt too many of our 69 verts left!
Damn Armon. My heart dropped when I read the title and who it was posted by. She's your baby. I'm glad you're okay and hopefully you aren't keel hauled by the insurance company. If you need any help tracking down parts in the Los Angeles area, let me know.
That's too bad. The car fared pretty well for that type of accident. If you were in a newer car it probably would have sustained much more damage. Good thing you're ok.
file a police report and start calling all the body shops in the area and ask if they have a silver vehicle with right side damage and green paint on it.
That is awful news. Glad to hear you are OK though. Best of luck dealing with all of this.
