Ok I have the hurst shifter in, it rows through the gears fine. But I do not see anyway in hell that ebrake is going back on. I did some searches and talked to Bartl a bit and maybe I am just really tired but I am not getting it.
The older threads say just bend the equalizer bar but I do not see how that is going to help at all it is so far off.
yeah that seems to be the consensus, maybe i have the wrong shifter because the ebrake equalizer interferes with the gear shift lever arms. This is a competition plus that i have had laying around for 15 years and prior to that it was used in a Falcon that was road raced (sovren). Blah, I will just order replacement linkage for my stock shifter.
Just put a Hurst comp shifter and a four speed in a 68 fastback and there was no issue with the brake. putting those clips on the rods yes but E brake no
There is a Z bend in the lever when viewed from the rear. Just reverse the bends to clear the Hurst, making sure the tip for the cable ends up in the same place. Too easy.
Maybe its the H pipe that is the problem. In the end though I just ordered a set of stock linkages from NPD to replace the wallowed out ones I had (car was getting stuck because the cam would spin in the slot it was so worn) and get it back on the road next week.
I have hooker comp headers and the hurst comp plus shifter on my '66 with a toploader; I had to bend the parking brake cable equalizer bar downward so it wouldn't hit the headers. Also make sure you put spring and adjust bolt in the correct holes on the bar or it won't work. Once i made these adjustments, my parking brake and shifter worked well. However, the reverse lights switch that is supposed to be mounted to the rear of the shifter is a PITA to get working. You have to modify the mount or fab your own or it interferes with the parking brake.
It appears you are correct I doublechecked the part numbers after I pulled it back out (what a pain in the ***). Guess I will put it back in a racecar or sell it.
