Hey guys I'm wanting to rebuild the rear drum brakes for my 66 and the data plate on the door has been painted over 2 times at least and is missing some information. It is my understanding that in 66 there are two different rear drum brake setups ? My VIN is 6R07C159997 can this info help in determining what kit to order and approximate build date ?
Before 4/15/66 the rear wheel cylinders were 29/32" diameter, after they were 7/8". There is NO other difference. As long as they are both the same, it really doesn't matter.
However, unless there are about 15 coats of paint on the Warranty Tag, you should be able to read the date. It was always there.
And the above folks are right, your non-Shelby V8 Mustang would have the 29/32" cylinders.
It always is huge red flag to me when someone takes the time and $ to paint a car... and can't take a few minutes to remove and replace the tag to maintain its purpose. Not just bury it. Just a sign of lazy, sloppy, cheap and careless work.
If they leave such a visible record of lack of care, what else was short cut that is now hidden under a coat of paint?
Wow.. did they use a roller, pour it over the car, or just dip it in color! :surprise:
