OK - it's 42 years old - and I have my work cut out for me. This is my spring/summer project (the engine compartment). Hopefully I can post some good after pictures by the end of the summer.

Looks like it's all there, have fun. Yank it all out then start from the firewall out. Thats the only way to do it right, trust me, it pays off.

Intake manifold is getting blasted....

Engine almost ready for paint....

Painted the valve covers (originals - cleaned and stripped), water pump (replacement), and timing cover (original - cleaned and stripped) today....placed the valve covers on the heads just to feel like I'm getting there...

Making more progress - had intake blasted. Getting started on the engine painting. Getting close to pulling the oil pan - and then I start on putting it all back together....

and then on to the rest of the engine compartment...

Making more progress - painted the front of the block - next steps are to finish cleaning and painting from underneath - paint the exhaust manifolds - and then I start to put it all back together....

Timing cover cleanup - before and after....same cover minus 42 years of grime...replacing the water pump...

Got my timing cover, harmonic balancer and fuel pump back on - installed new water pump - woo hoo!

Any tips on trying to clean this up? What can clean the housing?

Note the blue fan - apparently late 65 models had this so I think this is the original alternator...

Started to strip paint in the engine compartment this weekend...this is gonna be fun with the engine in the car...
