It's supposed to work that way. If you can weld, you could add ratcheting teeth to the selector. But with very little practice, hitting the gears is easy.

I was running through the gears on it tonight and I do feel it sit on drive but I guess I'm just used to modern automatic cars that I drive. Once the exhaust is done and I can actually drive further than my driveway, I'll practice more and get used to it. Again 22gt, THANKS for the info!
