Question 66 6 cylinder bell housing finish

I am restoring a '66 coupe, Dearborn car, 6 cylinder 3 speed. While cleaning up a very dirty bell housing, I find evidence of Ford Corporate Blue on the area nearest the engine, and some further back toward the transmission end. But it does not appear that the entire bell housing had blue paint. Is this simply over spray from when the engine was painted? There is no evidence that a previous owner did this, but that is possible.

The bell housing should be Natural Aluminum, as well as the transmission casing itself.. A lot of times, The Bell housings don't polish out or clean up well and are splotchy and stained, so people paint them natural aluminum color instead which is what I had to do. Believe that the engine was already painted before it was joined to the transmission at the factory....so any blue paint that you have on your tranny or bell housing was from a previous owner..
