I went in and got my Cable bill cut $20 a month yesterday but I consider it a short term bandaid.

I've been with Cox communications for TV and internet for almost 11 yrs. I originally had TV and Medium grade cable that ran around $120 a month. Once it got to over $160 a month I went in and complained about the price and ended up cutting my internet to the lowest tier to get me back to $140 a month. Anyways it was back up to $180 a month this month. I walked in and asked to pay my bill and schedule cancellation because the bill has just gotten outrageous. The guy said he'd either cut my bill $20 a month and give me medium tier internet again or I could add 4 premium channels and pay and extra $20 a month.

I've been considering DirectTV but if you read the fine print after there initial sign up they give you 6 months of a decent rate and then it jumps to a price similar to what I'm paying for cable. Wish we lived in a big city as I'd just get a youtube tv subscription and dump the cable.

I ready to just keep the internet portion and dump the cable... or maybe go for all new services altogether..

I don't have Direct TV with a dish it's Direct TV Now streaming service over the internet price is $35.00 a month with no contract their competing with Dish TV's Sling TV, Apple TV, Youtube tv, Hulu.

Direct TV Now is the only one I could find that included local channels ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox.

So far it's great better picture than Comcast.

Ditched the Direct TV and now Stream with ROKU, SLING, HULU, and Amazon Fire Stick (as of very recently) and still pay way LESS! the only bad thing is my internet comes from Spectrum (Time Warner). I hate those crooks! Its a freaking monopoly. They get ya coming or going.

Not only is cable/satellite expensive, thanks to the fees they have to pay the networks, since everybody is going the streaming route, now the networks are getting in on it. Can't watch the new Star Trek series unless you have the CBS streaming service at a monthly fee. Disney is going to have a similar service in the next year or so. So eventually, with all the individual services to buy, it's gonna end up being more than cable ever was. It'll be cheaper to buy the new Star Trek series when it comes out on DVD than to pay for a couple months of the streaming channel.

We cut our cable cord about 3 months ago after being informed that our rate was going to increase $70/month from our "introductory" rate. No brainer. At the same time, we got rid of our landline phone. I know, what took us so long? We were worried about the landline, but absolutely no issues whatsoever. Highly recommend.

I have Hulu and was hoping my Samsung TV was compatible with the live TV service but it is not, just has the app. So now I'm thinking of getting a Fire stick. But I'm also thinking of going to DirecTV Now since they have HBO for only $5 and everyone else charges $15. Plus, if they get a DVR service like Hulu it would be a bonus.

Anyone want to comment why I should choose Hulu vs DirecTV? My OTA antenna is only good for a half dozen useful channels.

Your tv should work with Directv Now try deleting the app & reloading it.

Directv Now has local channels abc, cbs, nbc, pbs etc Hulu or Sling TV don't.

It's been 10 days now with DirecTv Now streaming service I'll never go back to cable or a dish.

Can't find it on my TV. Maybe when the next update comes out it will be included.

An older Samsung TV may not have the DirecTV Now app. The SmartMedia app has to be one of the newer ones, and for some reason an older model can't run the newer app. I'm having similar problems with my Samsung Home Theater, which is the smart side of my system (didn't think I would need a smart TV when I bought the flatscreen years ago). So that may be the problem. Might require a FireStick to get around it.

I cut cable back in 2012 because of a 15 dollar increase with Comcast. Asked them to lower it down the 15 and they said I am getting a good deal at 160. So I went down to 70 for Internet only. Makes perfectly good sense to me.

Picked up antenna for 20 bucks and get like 15 local stations or something. Have amazon prime so get movies/tv shows from there. Good enough for me and I have saved quite a bit of money at this point.
