I shouldnt even ask this, but

Im trying to figure out why someone would post an item for sale on CL with an asking price of $5 or less. Is the aggravation worth $2-$3-$4?

I have often thought the same thing. Don’t understand it.

Very often they are just trying to get your email and phone number. A name is a bonus. The sell the info to companies who call or email you for god only knows what.

My sil does it all the time.

A similar situation of not worth the effort was Not long after the wife and I started dating the sil asked me, since I had a truck if we could go get a TV that she loaned out. I'm thinking if we need a truck it's gonna a big expensive tv. We drove 45 minutes, one way, to pick up a 27" tube tv that she could have easily fit in her car. It was at least 30 years old. I was pissed. She didn't shut up the entire time.

I've listed cheap or free stuff on CL. I hate to send stuff off to the landfill if someone else may be able to use it. I've sold stuff cheap on ebay too and boxing/shipping is a pita.

I've often thought if I started now by the time I'm ready to retire I could make a fortune selling off all my stuff, but the hassle of selling stuff off a piece at a time would be maddening! But if you had the time... I definitely wouldn't travel no further than around the corner to the gas station to meet folks for the low dollar stuff.

Every little bit adds up. I wont travel to sell anything. They have to come to the house. I'll have it ready at the door or in the side yard when they arrive. I'm not going to drive across town to have someone decide to haggle with me on the price.

Ebay, sold a closet full of old magazines. Sorted by year, $15-$20 for the year. shove them in an envelope and off they go.

Ive given more away than I have ever sold. If its a hard to find something and I think someone can use it, thats different.

I've posted lots of stuff on Craigs for free, but I can see where someone might just need even a couple of bucks for gas to get to work. Some folks really run that tight..
