Gen I Lightning

Ive always got my eye out for a nice example.

Ive noticed lately that there seem to be fewer and fewer for sale.

Of the ones I do see for sale, many are missing Lightning specific parts.

Somehow the sellers think that their tasteful mods increase value and collectability.

Why-o-why would you buy a Lightning, then replace the grill, bumpers and wheels?

I see three around here once in a while. They amuse me by being perfect examples. First is pristeen, it looks fresh off the lot. Second belongs to a young idiot who bought everything out of the cheesy catalog and added it. Third is pretty sure it's just a durn old truck and he very obviously treats it that way. Two and three are no longer very easy to spot as Lightnings anymore.

I've been sort of scheming on scoring some front suspension and brakes off one to transplant onto my plain XLT for some time. The towering pile of to-do projects I already have kind of squashed that pipe dream though.

My favorite vehicle off all that I've owned was the red '94 Lightning. Lowered 1". Bolt ons. Magnaflow exhaust. We'd pull our twinturbo drag radial car to the track with it(back when low 9s was fast on radials), my exwife would drive the car and I'd run the Lightning. It'd run 13.99 and then we'd hook the trailer up and tow the radial car home. Had to divest of all my toys in the divorce. I miss that thing. The truck. Not the ex or Radial car that have caused me to work 10 extra years before retirement.
