If that's true, I wonder what kind of restraints they will lay on Toyota?
No restrictions needed.
The Toyota were in the LMP1 hybrid prototype class. They don’t compete directly with the GTs.
Four classes of competition in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Four similar classes in IMSA:
WEC has LMP1 - IMSA has Daytona Prototype
WEC and IMSA have LMP2 - less weight, less power
WEC has GTE-Pro -IMSA has GTLM - same cars (Ford GT, Porsche 911 RSR, BMW M8, Corvette C7R, etc). All professional drivers and varying levels of Factory support, but all are considered “factory teams”
WEC has GTE-Am - IMSA has GTD - Pro and AM drivers combined. Similar cars to GTLM in terms of horsepower, just less aerodynamics. A bit higher top speeds, but quite a bit less cornering cornering speed. Supposed to be all customer teams, but that varies a bit and loop holes are found.
All four classes run their own race, but it’s hard to tell from the TV or live feeds....
Hope this helps.
