I need some help. Im undecided if I want to go with the 4 piston 12.19" wildwood kit or want to go with the 12.5"/13" kit from mustang steve. This is going on a 1967 mustang with a little secret behind it(ill share soon). Will not be taken on the road course.
On a street car, I doubt you'd ever need more than the Mustang Steve kit.
Disclaimer...I have the wilwood brakes all around because I thought I needed them (and they look cool) on my restomod build. But I'll probably never need that much brake and could have spent less and would have been just as happy with the performance. My car isn't on the road yet, so no opinions to share on the wilwood brakes though. Oh well...lessons like that are usually learned after you bought the parts.
Or you could just use a factory K-H disc kit up front and factory rear drums with Porterfield R4-S pads and shoes with stainless braided front and rear flex lines and stop just as well for half the cost.or there about.
As long as you're sure you want bigger wheels. Some might require 17" and some big wheels look better with the bigger brakes to fill the void behind them.
It doesnt matter your power output, brakes are matched to weight, type of use or for bling.
Here is a reply directly from Mustang Steve when I asked the same question:
"I find the 12.5” brakes to be sturdier and use thicker rotors for better ventilation. I have not done any quantitative tests to determine either’s effectiveness, but I doubt you will notice much difference either way on a street-driven application. Usually, if you want the better looking caliper, go with Cobra. If functionality and cost are any factor at all, the GT brakes work fine."
He also told me the cobra REAR calipers sit 1" farther inboard than the GT brakes. Not sure what the difference is on the front calipers. I installed GT brakes front and rear, and with Vintage Wheel Works V45's in 17x8 with 4.75 backspacing, the calipers clear the wheel spokes, but it is pretty darn close.

I just did the Scott Drake Power and front disk kit. It uses factory parts and was simple to install. I have no regrets in choosing this option. I was going to do rear disk but changed my mind.
The only deviation with the kit and my 66 was the replacement line from the new Mater Cylinder to the factory distribution block had the wrong size fitting going to the distribution block. I just picked up a premade line from Advanced and had them put the single bend in it for me.
The best part on this kit is the maintenance parts are all factory GT parts. I have no plans for massive performance upgrades to the drivetrain. For now anyway.
I went with the Mustang Steve SN-95 Cobra brake kit on my 1969 Fastback and could not be happier.
It needs 17" wheels, but I was going down that route anyway. The Wilwood stuff looks nice, but a little too specialised for my liking. I can get SN-95 brake discs and pads off the shelf even in the UK, which I like.
The kit was really good and I got a cracking deal on some used calipers which I refurbished. Like mentioned above, I like using off the shelf Ford parts.
More than enough stopping power for me. And the calipers look nice through the wheels
I also have SN-95 cobra rear brakes to go in when I do my 8.8" rear end swap.
I run the MS kits front and rear with the factory Ford Cobra brakes. I think 13" front and 11.65" rear. My car runs 686 FWHP and the stoppage is excellent and even.
I have an entire front MS kit that I powder coated gloss black that includes calipers and rotors for sale.
I bought everything years ago and I'm switching to the Cobra front brakes. This setup has ZERO miles on it as the car hasn't been on the road yet and only the drivers side has been test fit on the car.
MS for sure, I run the 2013GT 13.2's, got them from Roush (new take offs) cheap. Rotors, pads, calp., lines can be bought at parts store or dealer. Must run 17" wheels.
I have MS brackets and 12.5 calipers. He sourced my calipers from a take off car somewhere. They were like bran new. Going to have them powdercoated and run factory calipers that came on my Explorer 8.8 rear end.
might run manual brakes too, not decided on that yet. I don't think anyone will notice much difference between 12.5 and 13in rotors, Cobras look nice if you want the red and the running horse emblem.
I'm going to build a 500hp 347 over the next few months and with my type of semi rational driving I feel the 12.5in rotors will be fine. Maybe I'll get a different pad in there eventually but the calipers came with bran new OEM pads I'll try out first.
I had a 708 RWHP '00 GT Stang and faded the brakes going partially through a red light once pretty bad after making a pretty fast pull. That is very scary but I don't plan to drive that crazy in my classic. Cost and driving style / needs should make the decision on what to get.
