Ford racing crate motor 427

All,
I just finished a three-year build on a 1969 Mustang fastback. The purpose was to build a car my way, it is intended to be a weekend cruiser show car. It has all the goodies in it. Unfortunately I selected the Ford crate 427 535 hp motor. It is way too much engine for me. Has anybody taken this motor and changed out the cams and lifters to possibly tame the motor?
Thanks, Kurts1967

Install a stronger throttle return spring, so you can keep your foot out of it. Much cheaper than a cam change.
Or I could swap you my 500 horse 363. (JK)

Like everyone else, I don't think I have ever felt I have had too much power in a car. You said you were building it as a weekend cruiser show car. Does it have a massive low RPM lope to it, low to no vacuum at idle, or are its low RPM characteristics less than ideal? Those would probably be the only reasons I would consider a cam swap on it, and there might be easier ways to help a couple of those if needed.

Change timing until power is at a low enough level.

My car is too much fun to drive and people just love seeing it out on the road. Where can I find a used Prius for trade?

C'mon! Can't you guys just answer the question? NO, no one in the history of insanity has ever done what you have asked Is it more "be careful what you wish for" or "a fool and his money will always find a willing salesman?"

Well maybe NASCAR with a restrictor plate. I'd try a teeny tiny carb just so it could be floored more regularly.

What are your complaints about the motor exactly? It may help the members get a better understanding of how to help you.

Is he/you actually saying you want LESS HP or are you wanting a tamer engine with more manners and less raunchy characteristics? I'm a big fan of the Comp Cam extreme energy HR cams. Or to even be less money, re-use your HR lifters in her and for the price of a Ford cam and some gaskets, swap in say an F303 or I'd go x303 which in a 427 is going to be quite mild and drive easily. Shoot I put the x303 in my 17 yo son's 347 dd 67 Mustang. It is extremely driveable. Don't let the others scare you off with their sarcasm....this is an extremely friendly forum. REALLY
