A body shop and a mechanic in the Bronx. The body shop does excellent work, and like many businesses in the Bronx, is extremely well priced. Does good collision, rust, and paint work, and owner has a great attitude. S&T Autobody on 3rd Ave. and 183 St, 718/220-2201. Ask for Steve. Mechanic is small shop close to previous bodyshop. Does basics, and also exhaust and allignment. Will work with you to custom fabricate. Got an exhaust not made for my car to fit, also made urethane chassis bushings for sway bar from a diff. car fit my BMW with much cut and fit, in addition does light welding. Also very reasonable and very nice guy. Bronx Autotech, located 3rd Ave and 187 St., 718/561-6557. Ask for George.

DC Auto Restoration in Uxbridge, MA. The DC stands for Dave Croteau, who has completed 4 cars for me, is working on the 5th, and will be doing a 6th sometime in the next two years. He is well versed in Mustangs, with two in the family and a number of loyal Mustang customers including me.

Dave does restoration work as a hobby and is a bit of a perfectionist so the turnaround time can be as short as 6 weeks or as long as 7 months, depending on the amount of work needed. Currently, he's booked about 6-8 months out.

Anyone interested in contacting him can PM me for his phone number.

Great idea to keep this up on top of this forum section.
I have a few shops I'd like to pass along but haven't used yet...but have seen their work and it is great!

Does anyone know of a mechanical shop that specializes in brake/suspension/upgrades/resto work on our ol'classic ponies in the extended metro area? I would really appreciate it if someone has some info on this one. Thnx in advance.

As many people know, my car was done by Glazier's Mustang Barn in Souderton, PA. All they do is restore Mustangs (and a few other cars) to absolutely perfect conditions. They are pricey, but specialists are not cheap.

Perhaps "CobraSix" would be so kind as to give his opinions of Mid County Mustang. It's another Mustang shop in SE Pennsylvania.

Since you asked...

Mid County Mustang in Upper Uwchlan, PA (about 45 minutes west of Philly) is absolutely awesome for rust and body repairs. I do not know how they do on body shop type stuff, but they specialize in floor pan, inner rocker, frame rail replacement. They will do anything, but they do rust repairs most of the time.

Their price is very reasonable. They will give you a written estimate that is good for 90 days. My rust repair was around $5k and they only ran over by $100 from the original estimate and that's because they found some hidden rust. They called me and asked if I wanted it repaired.

I took my car to Glazier's as well for a quote. I saw some of their work. Absolutely awesome. They are a little price for rust repairs though, they were about 3-4K more then Mid County. Glazier's struck me as a better place for body/paint/restoration and Mid County more for Rust repair.

Thom Buss Transmissions in Berlin,NJ did an excellent job on rebuilding my C-6 Trans for my 69 "S" code mach 1.They installed a new torque converter, complete rebuild and in and out of car with headers for $700.00.Shift kit is extra but they give you a 12,000 mile/1 year warranty. This trans shifts very hard and really helps the 390 motor.Tell Tom that Bill with the 69 mach 1 sent you.Very pleasant to deal with and he stands behind his work! ::

Some recommendations for Central/Southern Connecticut...

General to Full blown custom:

Auto Service of Old Saybrook
Old Saybrook, CT
860-388-6838 ask for Billy

While not a Ford guy, Billy has some of the nicest Mopars you have ever seen. He does general mechanical as well as lots of custom one-off work for various customers in the area. He takes great care in everything he does, is straight-up dead honest, and has an extremely well equipped and clean shop. Current projects are a 29 Ford pickup street rod and an LS-1 into an 87 Monte SS. I send all of my friends to him for even the most general work, he's the most honest mechanic I've ever met, that's why I worked for him a few years back.

Auto Body:

Woody's Auto Body
Westbrook, CT
860-399-6644 ask for Pete

Pete is the guy who is painting my 71 Mach. He's been very helpful and is extremely knowledgable. This is a busy body shop, so he doesn't have a ton of time to chat, but his work speaks for itself. He and his employees really enjoy working on older vehicles, and lavish extra attention on them. Pete also did my buddy John's 70 Roadrunner. Absolutely gorgeous paintjob, still looks A-1 awesome after 7 years!

Atwood's Auto Body
Deep River, CT

Atwood's is owned by Billy's brother George. He is as straight up as his brother, and has an excellent staff of highly skilled employees. Atwood's just rebuilt their entire operation to include new spray booths and more room. George painted Billy's 69 Hemi GTX, which is absolutely the cleanest car I have ever seen.

Custom work:

Well, why ME! I do a lot of small projects for different people, from simple engine or tranny installations to full on conversions such as the 67 Fairlane Convert I did a 460 swap on with a full fuel system and complete suspension re-work. I also do interior, electrical and just about anything else but bodywork. I have a 2K sqr foot shop and have just about any equipment I might need. If you've got somethin you don't want to tackle yourself, drop me a line and let me know what you're looking for. I'm located in Deep River, CT

In the Boston area, I highly reccommend Rob Del Gallo and family at Factory Collision and Restoration, 1163 Washington st South Weymouth Mass, 02189 781-331-0113

Rob, his son Tony and the other repair technicians do excellent, extremely high quality, award winning work. Every job is done with the utmost care. They are currently completing my 73 Convertible (collision damage) which I personally took 6 years to re-do (89-95)with all NOS items. Rob battled with the insurance companies on my behalf to have the car repaired correctly.
All phases of restoration and customization work are completed in shop, along with any/all paint combo's. If you can dream it, they can create it. Additionally, they build custom motorcycles and kit cars. Streeters to full race, no problem.

As for engine, transmision and rear end work, no one is better or more reasonably priced than Dana Herd @ Custom Automotive Machine Co (CAMCO) 110 East St Weymouth Ma, 02188 781-331-6763. Dana can rebuild your original block, create an unbreakable street rod, or customize your 1/4 mile fuelie. Rodder or Rocketship, no problem!

I have had the pleasure of working with and knowing BOTH parties for the past 15 years, and have personally had many engines and cars restored/rebuilt/repaired. The 2 shops make a great combination for any type of dream car (or bike)you may want to create!
