About 13 years ago I installed a 1" sway bar from Mustang Plus. When I took the car apart, I recall having an issue with the bushings sticking to the bar and I threw them away although I kept the brackets. I ordered some new bushings for a 1" bar from Rockauto, the brackets were thin and bushings narrower than the ones originally from Mustangs Plus. I then purchased a set of Energy Suspension urethane bushings from Summit. They are bigger than the Moog ones, but not as wide as the Grab-A-Tracks. Am I being overly picky? I want to install my suspension this week and do not want to wait for a shipment from California. Anyone use Energy Suspension bushings before? This a is a street car.
I installed the complete ES Prothane bushing kit. This includes the rear leaf springs along with the front suspension. I did use the factory sway bar to body brackets with the Prothane bushings. There is about a 1/8" gap/opening in the bushing within the bracket. Otherwise, it is fitting perfectly side to side and there is no slop movement.
I am planning on buying the 1" Grab-A-Trak sway bar so interested in what bushings you decide to go with. Did the poly bushings material break down or shrink in size to cause them to bind? I can't picture the issue you are describing without seeing it.
Use only synthetic grease on polyurethane bushings. They're pretty
particular and it doesn't take much to degrade them. Even water will
break down poly....... they don't tell you that though when they're
"selling" you.
That's probably what the OP's problem was originally, using the crap that came with
the bushings to lube them. You'd think the bushing supplier would know better.....
think again.
When i was into 4x4 i learned to use the food grade SuperLube on every urethan piece, it is clear/white in color. I had removed some of the bushings after maybe 4-5 years and didn't have any sort of "gluing" effect
You didn’t ask me direct...but the link I posted is what I use. I installed this grease two years ago with my new suspension. I have pressure washed the underside of my car twice since then. The grease is still in place. I bought four tubes thinking I would make several applications. Three tubes are still on the shelf. Suggestion...use gloves.
No offense, living 20 miles from Summit Racing I was hoping a referral would come which I could get there instead of having to order from 3/4 of the way across the country...
I've used ES bushings for many years, never had any complaints about them, other than their master suspension kits sometimes had bushings that did not fit as advertised.
Did the bolt holes in the sway bar brackets mount up to the bolt holes in the frame without modification?
