Door Lock Knobs

Is it normal for these new repop door lock knobs to sit up this high? I know these plastic chrome knobs are fragile and tend to easily break but is there a trick to get these to sit a bit lower or is there a better option?

The knobs are threaded and should run down some. If you have used aftermarket latches or rods, maybe something else is amiss and you may need to bend the rods a little to bring it down if turning the knob clockwise doesn't do it. Beautiful color blue by the way.

Might have to trim the rod an inch or so

I just installed new lock knobs and they sit perfectly flush when locked.

I'm not an expert, but I play one on the internet.

Hi BlakeTX, can you send me pictures how the lock knobs sit on your car. What type of knobs did you use?

Before you trim anything, show us how it looks in the locked position.

Amateur restorer. Well, sometimes I have been paid for it. But not right now.

I measured the passenger side, locked, with calipers and got 3/32 at the bottom ridge/largest diameter which is almost as flush as can be. The driver side is a bit higher but still bottomed out.

It might be worth mentioning that I have metal grommets of unknown origin, but they are far superior to the craplastic stock grommets. They might be 1/32 taller than the plastic which I guess adds up, but not much.
