Saturday, my 16 year old daughter and I are headed out early for a road trip into New Mexico. It's going to be a two day trip and we're going in the Mustang. We're both history buffs, and going to see a site in New Mexico that she and I have talked about. I'll post updates on here, as long as we can get a decent connection. We're really looking forward to this. Can you guess where we're going?

Bingo!!! The Trinity Site is only open twice a year...first Saturday in April, and the first Saturday in October. I had told my daughter about having been to the site a few years ago, and now she wants to see it. As usual, I'm looking forward to the adventure of the trip and getting to spend almost two whole days with my daughter. I will post pics of our adventure.

I only got as close as the granite marker on the side of the road. Was passing through in December.
But I did try to get in through the back gate.
And was promptly turned around.

The New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo is a fun visit too.

Nice! You watching Fat Man and Little Boy prior to the trip to get "in the mood"?

I've been to the trinity site. While there check out the petroglyphs (spelling?) (I think they are nearby, it's been awhile) and of course Roswell. I used to be stationed in NM. Roswell is probably out of the way, but the petroglyphs are pretty cool if you are into old rocks. Another tip: do a web search for ghost towns. I used to love travelling to some of those old spots. But I'm kind of strange like that.

I like the petroglyphs idea. My high school track coach has published a book about the petroglyphs in the Grand Canyon region and makes a good read if you're into them. I've been to the WSMR museum...very easy to get up and close to the displays. It's a 5 hour drive from our place to the Trinity site. We will probably spend a couple of hours there and then see what we want to do.

We made it to Trinity Site with no issues. Took pictures, walked around, and did some exploring. Had a good time with my daughter and now we're in Socorro to have a good meal and then back to Truth or Consequences, NM to check in. Narrative and pics to follow once we get settled in

I tried to upload pics and narrative on here, but it just wasn't working for me. So I went ahead and updated my blog and put everything from today on there. If you want to give it a read, just click on the link on my signature below and it should open it up.

We had a good day today.
