289 HiPo Alternator

I have what appears to be an original 289 HiPo alternator.

It has the 3.87" steel pulley with the correct part number that looks to be original.

My question is how to verify that this is the real deal?

I don't see any part numbers on alternator itself.

Thanks for the help!

Joe

You won't. The 65-69 alternators were ink stamped, and once that's gone…

The HP used the high output alternator, same as AC equipped cars, but it carried a different number due to the large pulley.

FWIW, there's a guy on eBay selling rebuilt alternators with the teardrop case. All of them have 61 amp internals and he puts different ink stamps on them depending on which car you have. The work is very well done. He's out of Reno or Sparks Nevada I believe.

Hey thanks for the quick replies!

I was going to put it up for sale, but now w/o being able to verify that it's an original I have no idea about how to price it.

I Wouldn't want someone to think they over paid w/o the proof.

Guess I'll hang on to it.

Thanks for the info,

Joe

The pulley alone is worth some $'s.

As the drill sergeant said, "I taught you everything you know. I didn't teach you everything I know."

Q

Those original cases are starting to be a little more hard to come by. So'd I'd be keeping it too.

Even though someone is reproducing them?

How to tell them apart from the originals?

Thanks,

Joe

Is the part number on the pulley stamped in a straight line or is it arched? Can you post a pic or two? Thanks

Thanks for sharing the pics

I'ts the middle pic above, so it's the teardrop 1966-1968

The number on the pulley is arched,

C5AF-10A352-H

FYI,

I got this from my father he purchased it about 30 years ago from a guy that really knew FORD parts back in the 80's.

My Dad had purchased a complete all original never been apart till recent 1966 289 HiPo engine, the only parts missing to make it 100% complete were the special fan and alternator.

I'll try and get some pics up later!

Thanks for all the help,

Joe

Here are a couple of pics,

It's been stored all this time so it's never been cleaned or repainted

Thanks!

Thanks!

What year? No, but I'm pretty sure it was in the 80's.

The arched stamping has never been repopped to my knowledge. IMHO it's worth $100 tops. As others have said the value is in the pulley and only a purist restoration would "need" one like it. If the alternator were in better condition and the orange ink stamp was still on it it would bring the value up a bit.
