No one is commenting on the $2.7M for a 2019 corvette?! I get that itís the last front engine one built, will be collectible for sure... but $2.7M?!

These "brand-new-build" type of cars, that are built by businesses, for the specific purpose of turning a profit and supporting an ongoing business, stand completely apart and alone from the values of original/genuine collector cars..

Fact of the matter is, whether you're shopping a genuine "licensed" Eleanor from Brand New Musclecar (that's who is building these exclusive licensed units), or a GT convertible from Revology, or any other reputable/quality builder of "brand-new/all-new" reproduction-body restomods, you are going to find that the price of entry is around $150K bucks. It has to be, in order for these businesses to have any hopes of being profitable and viable.

So yeah, it appears crazy when an Eleanor sells for more than a driver-quality '67 GT500. But the two values are really not inter-relate-able. The builder of the Eleanor, a business paying for salaries and rent/mortgage and insurance and equipment and-and-and.., has to score $170K minimum probably every time they sell one, or... Or they cannot continue to do it.

It is what it is.

Neither off those cars would outrun a C5 ZO6.
I like the looks and rarity of a GT-500 but they were not that hot as far as performance goes.
At the elevated price points it's all about bragging rights.
While I don't really want an Eleanor clone, I can guarantee that for that amount of money, I can build a really fast and fun to drive car.

I seem to have noticed that the Northeast Barrett-Jackson auction brings higher prices for these cars than most of the other auctions. May be the alcohol, but could also be the big Wall Street money in the Connecticut/Long Island area.

All Eleanors are clones. The originals were 71s with a 73 facelift. The Nic Cage movie "borrowed" the name for the remake. It's not really a GT500 in the remake either.

Wasn't it for charity? If so, it was tax deductible....

Denise Halicki trademarked the "Eleanor" cars. Barrett Jackson, Mecum or any other auction house cannot sell one without her blessing. However, If you pay her the fee she requests, you too can have an "authentic" Eleanor
Im curious how Toby Halicki would have felt about his legacy? I know the Halicki family, Toby's Dad was a judge in my hometown and I was an extra standing on the side of the street during the filming of Gone in 60 seconds 2 in 1989. That move was never completed after Toby's death during filming.

That $2.7mil vette was being sold for charity. Its a tax write off for the buyer AND General Motors.

Indeed. Most folks that can spend that kind of money on a vehicle did not get that capability by being dumb.
