Which outer rocker panel is correct for 65?

Trying again.



My 65 fastback outer rocker panels are both factory and neither one has about a 1 foot long V shaped indentation around the midpoint of the rocker and toward the bottom.


Its a bit difficult but you can make it out in the photo below of a Dynacorn outer rocker. The V stamped into the rocker shows up as that white line. The other thing I observed on the part I was sent is that the bottom of the rocker is curved down and inward all the way to the flange. On my car, the bottom of the rocker flattens out for about the last inch and a half and the flange is then bent at pretty much a 90 degree angle. The line where it goes flat is not gradual or smooth. It is a crisp line. Where do I find a rocker panel that matches what I have on my car?



So is this a convertible only feature or should the coupe and fastback have that particular detail?

So now the big question is where do I get one that is properly stamped so I don't have odd ball mis-matched rocker panels.


I found this at Dynacorn Depot The photo indicates it is correctly stamped on the bottom but I have looked at this same Dynacorn part number 3647 LCWT on a bunch of sites and they show the wrong part in their photos. One company even apparently lied to me and said theirs didn't have that V detail in it but the photo of their own part showed it. Even for this one they say it is in weld thru which is how Dynacorn does most of their stuff but the photo doesn't look like weld thru. It looks like e-coat.








Can somebody please help me find this stupid thing so I can cut my old stupid thing off and weld the new stupid thing on? LOL. Even made myself laugh.

That indentation is where the front fender goes. It is not visible when the fender is installed.

Do a google search on 1965 mustang unibody, look at images, and you will see it.

The indentation I'm looking at is about center under the door of the car. It isn't related to the front fender. I should have shot a photo of this on the part I'm returning to NPD. I didn't expect it was going to be this level of an issue but it appears that everybody is selling the same incorrect rocker including Dynacorn. They are probably all being cranked out by one shop in Taiwan.


It would be interesting to know what year/model car these panels were made for.

My experience is that the parts are often generic and designed to fit multiple models and years. So they may not look exactly right for your
Application but will fit.

Any chance you could use a section from a donor car? Just cut out the damaged section and butt weld a piece in?

That is most likely what has been done or they don't have the correct sheet metal mold to stamp out the 65-66 any more so some other year is being used to make all of these things.



I would prefer to not have a mis-matched set of rocker panels.


NPD said they have probably sold a hundred of that same one I ordered and I'm the first person to return one as not being correct. Maybe most people that are buying this piece are chopping out a patch and not using the whole piece. I found one video on youvtube of somebody doing just that.



Thanks to Roger at NPD on the night shift, he pulled out every version of this piece that they sell and looked at it with me on the phone and they are all using the same stamping for all of them. I was hoping that maybe the full rocker would be made correctly.



I don't know right now what I am going to do.

I suspect this is what I am going to have to do if I want it to be correct or somehow chop the indentation out of a repop panel and patch in that same section of my old rocker.


I have 3 areas that I need to fix in my rocker. Instead of cutting out multiple patches I wanted to put one long piece in that would fix all of my problems.
