3A (Teak) vs 3AA (Walnut) Interior Code, 69

So my Mach 1 is a January build with 3AA as the interior code. I have recently found that the earlier teak was changed to walnut around the January '69 time frame. I Have also read that 3A denotes Teak whereas the 3AA denotes Walnut. Is this a definitive answer?

I have teak in the door panels that I put together (new) and on the console (the wood grain insert is new) but the instrument panel and clock passenger panel are walnut (I have some reason to believe that at the least the instrument panel is original because of date coding). I REALLY like the teak better but have found no new source for these two panels in teak. I also liek to take things back to original as close as possible.

Any insight on the codes, the time frames or sources for the teak is welcome!

Where is that code found? I don't see it on my Marti report, the door tag nor the buck tag. Maybe I am just overlooking it. Dave R.

From my reading (Concours forum as well), no. It seems to be that January is the transition with maybe a few stragglers from what I can tell. Just trying to clarify if such can be done.

My door tag has trim code as 3D which according to my Marti report is dark red clarion knit vinyl Mach 1 high back bucket seats. Nothing about teak or walnut. Bulit 10-8-68 in Dearborn. Dave R.

In a word, yes but I bought the car in mid-restoration and I assumed the wood grain in it then was correct. I replaced the various woodgrain pieces with teak pieces as the panels in the car as purchased were less than nice but were teak. Dave R.

Thanks! Certainly following a pattern with the date codes and 2 digit vs 3 digit Trim codes.

I've got one Mach 1 with a 10/31/68 production date, and another with a 12/12/68 production date. Both of them are a 3A, and I am 99.9% positive both came with Light Teak interior. I also have a 6/30/69 production date Mach 1, which is a 3AA, and I am 99.9% positive it came with Walnut interior.

Fair point. I'm beginning to realize that as you/we collect information on certain Mustangs, even information that can't be confirmed can follow patterns. I asked specifically if your Mustang had Teak accents on the interior because that is what follows the pattern I'm learning. It could be disproved, but the more times it is proved the more sure we can be. You sharing your information as you know it is enough for me to thank you for.

It still amazes me that some of these questions are/cannot be answered definitively.

I hearken to Brian's answer. He said nothing about it being definitive but offered up his car for an example. Having seen some of his information on his car, on this and another forum, it helps me come to a conclusion on my car, albeit somewhat unprovable.

I have an April 69 Mach 1. 3DA trim code. Walnut woodgrain here.

Another difference on my red interior is the carpet only has vinyl mats in the drivers position. Carpet is original with the correct paper tag under the carpet AND a buildsheet under the carpet as well.

Everybody has to start some place
